A Review of Practices and Methods Prescribed by the New Seers
Home
The two-word title of this site wholly characterizes the content within. The word Seer represents a class of human beings that have the capacity to see beneath the social and material veneer that ordinarily obscures the energetic essence of everything. More often than not, such beings acquire their extraordinary ability through arduous training, unrelenting dedication and secretive practices. By all indications, the essential practices and methods described herein were passed down to Carlos Castaneda from the seers of ancient Mexico through countless generations that refined and perfected the various techniques.
The word Portal is used for both its literal and metaphorical meaning as a door, a gate, and an entrance into “something more than, and above all something different from, the carefully selected utilitarian material which our narrowed, individual minds regard as a complete … picture of reality” (1 p. 12). The practices and methods discussed on this site can be described as: a doorway to perceptions beyond ordinary reality; or an opportunity for the dedicated practitioner to enter into new aspects of being by enhancing their perception and expanding their awareness; or simply an entrance into new worlds.
According to Castaneda, humans are composed of two parts, the physical body and the energy body, and the shamanic practices he advocated are aimed at developing the energetic component of humans, since this is the part that can not only provide insight into the nature of the universe but also potentially survive beyond bodily death. The idea that a soul, or some component of humans, can survive beyond death is shared by many of the world’s major religions. Even science leaves room for such a possibility; acknowledging that the human body does indeed return to the dust of the earth, but energy can never be destroyed. Ultimately, the seers’ practices offer a pragmatic opportunity for practitioners to expand their awareness and maintain cognition beyond bodily death.
